Kintsugi is a Japanese art form dating back to the 17 th century in which broken ceramics are mended using resin and precious metal powders such as gold, silver, copper, and others. “Kin” means gold and “tsugi” means mend. Kintsugi transforms the piece into a beauty that transcends the original. The imagery for the believer is one of restoration of our brokenness and the opportunity to reveal the beauty of Christ in us. As Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 4:7, “we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
